Adaptive Frequency Hopping for Bluetooth Robust to Co-channel Interference

چکیده
In this paper, we consider the mitigation of cochannel interference in Bluetooth by means of adaptive frequency hopping (FH). Prior to sending packets, the proposed scheme classifies whether the next FH channel is in use by other signals or not. It also periodically classifies channels occupied by the WLAN signal to change the hopping frequency. For fast classification of busy channels, it divides the whole channels into a number of groups considering the bandwidth and configuration of WLAN signal. The simulation results show that the proposed FH scheme makes Bluetooth quite robust to the presence of multiple WLAN and other Bluetooth signals.

Coexistence of IEEE 802.11b and Bluetooth: An Integrated Performance Analysis
IEEE 802.11b wireless networks and Bluetooth networks provide complimentary services using the same unlicensed radio frequency band. As the benefits of utilizing these services become increasingly apparent, the likelihood of mutual interference also increases. The wellknown frequency hopping algorithm and adaptive frequency hopping algorithm do not fully consider the interference level of the o...

In this paper, we investigate the use of Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) techniques aimed at modifying the Bluetooth frequency hopping sequence in the presence of WLAN direct sequence spread spectrum devices. We examine the conditions such as the applications, topologies, and scenarios under which AFH techniques improve performance that is measured in terms of packet loss, TCP delay, and chann...
متن کاملBlueStar: Enabling Efficient Integration Between Bluetooth WPANs and IEEE 802.11 WLANs
Bluetooth is a radio technology for Wireless Personal Area Networking (WPAN) operating in the 2.4 GHz ISM frequency band. So far, there has been little research on how Bluetooth-enabled devices can effectively and efficiently have uninterrupted access to wide area networks (WAN) such as the Internet. We introduce a novel architecture (BlueStar) whereby selected Bluetooth devices, called Bluetoo...
متن کاملA random graph-based model to analyze packet interference between frequency hopping systems with an application to Bluetooth
In this paper, we present a graph-based model for analyzing interference between two frequency hopping systems for wireless communication. Informally, frequency hopping means that successive packets are transmitted on different frequencies from a pseudo-random sequence. The frequency band occupied by a packet may be narrow or wide. Our model is based on the concept of probabilistic graphs, wher...

Due to the unlicensed nature of 2.4 GHz ISM band, the number of technologies using this band is growing. FCC regulations mandate that these technologies need to implement some form of frequency sharing. Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) and Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) are two popular techniques to share the frequencies within this band. However, devices implementing different ...
